First Shot

First Shot is the located on the Hidden Buttress on Mt Willard. It is the farthest route to the right as you ascend the talus slope from the RR tracks. The protection reflects the general vib of the area (sparse) but is adequate. The climbing generally cruises at about 5.6 with bolts just where you want them. Have fun!

Locate Hatties Garden (The actual garden!) at the top of Crawford Notch.(see 'getting there' in the Butress No.1 AREA ) From the garden walk north along the tracks for about 200 yards until a small cairn on the left. At the cairn turn left and follow a steep and somewhat-obscure-but-getting-better climber's path up the overgrown talus slope until the buttress is reached. First Shot is the farthest route to the right.
