Prowess

Description

While only about 35 feet, Prowess is a fun arete problem that is certainly worth getting on if you find yourself in the area. Arete pinching, small crimps and clever body positioning makes for an entertaining crux sequence.

The route takes the line up the prominent arete on the right side of the formation.

Location

This climb is not located on Big Pine Tower proper but is instead located on a short tower midway between BPT and Anduriel Tower. Though it is part of the Big Pine Tower cluster, the approach is more straightforward if you careen over from Anduriel Tower.

Hike down from the road as for Anduriel Tower and make your way to the base of Arizona Flyways on the east face of the formation. Prowess is on an independent tower about 50 yards to the left of the start of Arizona Flyways. A short 3rd class scramble places you on a wide ledge and at the base of the route.

Protection

Bolts, chains.
