Peak Mountain 3

"Found" Boulder, The

Description

[Edit]

Somehow local climbers have been walking or riding by this boulder for years without seeing it even though it is only five minutes up a main trail from Rt 165. Luckily when Dana Seaton and I were out hunting for boulders, while I ran into the woods to check out a boulder that turned out to be 5 feet high, he walked ahead a few hundred feet, stopped and caught sight of it down in a rhododendron hollow. About 14 feet tall at the high point, there is climbing all around, with two really good routes on the overhanging aretes. Most of the routes are fairly fingery, so bring your crimping strength. If you have the time, It might not be a bad idea to warm up somewhere else nearby (like the Roadside Wall or at the Hudson Boulder on the way in)
