Nuts and Seeds
Description
This is a great warm up climb with a great view after topping out. The crux is in the middle of the route where the crack gets wider but further in are spots for hand jams, work your feet up a bit to reach a ledge and pull yourself up. The climb is quick and easy and a good way to start your day.
Location
Hike the Winnemucca Trail to Lake Winnemucca (2.5 miles in), once at the lake keep taking the trail that goes around the rim. At the end of the trail there is a small scramble, scramble up the rocks and continue to climbers left, scramble across a patch of boulders and you'll see a couple of cracks (yet to be established). Go just past the first cracks and you'll find a crack in a dihedral and that's nuts and seeds. To the left of the climb is a path to the top where you can set up a TR anchor around a large tree.
Protection
Lots of cordelette to set up a TR, if you want to set up a true anchor you'll need a few #4s or #5s to make sure your gear doesn't walk. Or a set of nuts. The crack itself wouldn't need anything above a #3 and requires few pieces.
