Ringwraith

FA Roman Laba and Joe Kelsey, 1966
CREATED

Description

The Vulgarians dominated the Gunks from the mid-60s, and the send of Ringwraith was an inspired effort from two of their best, Roman Laba and Joe Kelsey.

This imposing line dominates the beautiful face left of Strawberry Shortcut, and as a pure a crack climb, is an anomaly in the land of roofs. The fierce start in the green corner at the bottom is the hardest single move, but Ringwraith delivers consistently pumpy and elegant crack moves all the way to a big ledge and fix anchors for 70 feet.

Location

At the far left (north) end of Skytop, the first major formation is the beautiful face split by Ringwraith in the center and Reign of Terror on the right.

Protection

Standard Gunks Rack. There is a fixed pin at the upper crux, but no promises on its value.
