Description
Chicago Park District may not have planned for this to be part of the climbing at Steelworkers Park, but it is too obvious and appealing to be ignored. Surprisingly nice, if short, you climb up the fingers crack to the top of the ore wall, where you can enjoy a nice view downtown and to the active steel works in Indiana. Most of the route you can cheat the crack a bit with bonus features on the sides, especially the two boreholes, but towards the top you are committed into the crack for a couple moves. Bits of iron sticking out give an easy topout up and left, but don't forget to place a final directional cam or clip the I-beam if you are anchoring off the main barrel. You can climb up the regular wall and set a TR in the same way. The bits of gravel at the very edge of the crack have the potential to pop, but mostly feels fine, and you can place gear solidly into it.
Location
At the right/eastern edge of the climbing mulch, it's the obvious splitter crack.
Protection
BD#0.5, as many as you want. Optional #3 placement, could also get away with 0.4s, maybe up to 0.75? Slings to anchor off the top to the left, or rig an anchor off the I-Beam. Possibly tricams or wires if you only have a couple cams?
