The Catacomb Wall

Description

This is an excellent wall with lots of foot and handholds galore! The wall is flat until you get to the brain (approx 30' up) then it gradually pitches out.

Location

Two routes at the base of the wall. The route on the right is called "Willy Tea" after Will Prater and his affinity for tea and the fact he's the first to climb it. The left route is called "Brain Drain" after the feature that looks like a brain about 25' up. From that point on you start getting drained of energy as you go. Must be a mind game....

Here's the breakdown:

1 WILLY TEA- Work the crack until you get to the sandstone catacombs that make excellent hand and foot holds. It takes a bit of strength and flex to move up. Just above the catacombs, smear up to the next set and top out.

  1. BRAIN DRAIN- Work the crack up to the ledge we call the Short Porch. You can easily stand here and plan your next move. There are hand holds galore and you need to work your leg up onto the top of the "brain". From there reach up and work the handholds that look like skulls and if you're persistent, top out!

Protection

No bolts yet. Planning to add them soon. Large tree at the top and a large boulder in front of it with a natural channel that's weathered out over the top of it to feed an anchor through (We made a tensionless anchor out of static rope).
